Poland’s fuel prices are among the lowest in the EU, the government spokesperson has said responding to opposition claims that fuel prices are being inflated.
On January 3, the main opposition party, Civic Platform (PO), accused the state-owned fuel corporation PKN Orlen of unnecessarily raising fuel prices.
According to PO, the hike in prices cost Poles PLN 2.5 billion (EUR 540 million).
Responding to the claims at a press conference on January 4, Piotr Mueller said Poland had one of the lowest fuel tariffs in the EU.
He added that the government was striving to stabilise fuel and energy prices, pointing to the partial freezing of electricity rates as an example.
“What I can promise is that we will continue to stabilise tariffs,” Mueller said. (PAP/Business World Magazine)
