More than 20 flights were canceled at Vilnius and Kaunas airports due to heavy snowfall between 21:00 on December 11 and 05:00 on December 12.
“The flights were canceled due to extreme weather conditions: heavy snowfall in Vilnius and Kaunas,” Tadas Vasiliauskas, spokesperson of Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), said.
Flights at Palanga Airport operated as scheduled. On December 12 morning, flights were also resumed at Vilnius and Kaunas Airports.
Heavy snow and blizzard on December 11 also complicated traffic conditions in large parts of Lithuania.
“On December 11 evening, around 2 centimetres of snow per hour fell in Vilnius. These conditions made some road sections difficult to pass,” Vilnius City Municipality wrote on Facebook.
Due to heavy snow on December 12 morning, around 2,000 consumers, mostly in western Lithuania, had no electricity.
The snow, however, did not cause any major problems, according to Paulius Kalmantas, a representative of the Energy Distribution Operator (ESO).
“There are no mass disconnections because the snow is light. The crews are working, and the electricity supply should be restored soon,” Kalmantas said. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
