Representatives of the Moldova Fruct Association and business people from the sector of import and export of farming products last week paid a working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, in order to discuss the potential of export of Moldovan fruits to the market of Egypt.
According to the Moldova Fruct Association, the discussions were aimed at identifying opportunities of exporting apples to Egypt and removing the present tariff obstacles. During four days, Moldova’s representatives had meetings with business people from Egypt and the most important business organizations, such as: Federation of Chambers of Commerce from Egypt, Egyptian Organization for Support of Agricultural Exports, Association of Exporters from Horticultural Sector of Egypt.
At the meetings, the Moldova Fruct leadership referred to the potential of export of Moldovan fruits and Association’s members organized a tasting of five varieties of apples for those five big apple importers from Egypt, which gave high marks to the Moldovan fruits.
“Egypt’s market is attractive for the exporters of apples for all categories of consumers and organizations from this country showed interest in importing them,” the Moldova Fruct director, Iurie Fala said.
Following the discussions, Egyptian traders showed interest in the import of Moldovan apples, on condition that the customs duty and procedures, which is 41.5% of the invoice’s value, are removed. On the next period, members of the Moldova Fruct Association will make a test delivery, in order to test the market.
