Lithuania will soon provide additional military support to Ukraine, as the country is continuing to resist the Russian invasion, the Lithuanian Defence Ministry has said in a press release.
Lithuania plans to send to Ukraine M113 and M577 armoured personnel carriers and ammunition for reserve training, the ministry announced on July 20.
According to Defence Minister Arvydas Anusauskas, M113 armoured vehicles are becoming an important part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Lithuania is making a significant contribution to that.
His comments followed a virtual meeting of the NATO Ukraine Defence Contact Group.
The minister also highlighted the role of the countries supporting Ukraine in providing training to the country’s troops. Lithuania has also proposed to organise a wide range of military training for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Ukraine has identified its key training needs, and the Lithuanian Armed Forces are ready to meet them. At the moment, a request has been submitted for the training of military policemen and demining specialists. The Lithuanian Armed Forces will also contribute to the large-scale training of Ukrainian personnel in the United Kingdom by sending instructors there,” Anusauskas said.
Lithuanian military assistance provided to Ukraine so far includes Stinger air defence systems, anti-tank weapons, armoured vests and helmets, 120 mm mortars, small arms, ammunition, thermal imaging cameras, drones, anti-drones, surveillance radars, M113 armoured personnel carriers, trucks and SUVs.
Moreover, Lithuania has handed over to Ukraine a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicle with ammunition bought with money donated by Lithuanian citizens.
In total, Lithuania’s military assistance to Ukraine to date is valued at around 123 million euros. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
