Russia-origin cement and alcohol had been banned from transiting Lithuania, the Customs Department said on July 11.
The restrictions came into effect on July 10 after the expiry of a transitional period as part of the fifth package of EU sanctions against Russia, the department said.
On June 17, steel and other ferrous metals were banned from transiting Lithuania. Restrictions on coal and solid fuels are set to come into force on August 10, followed by a ban on Russian oil and its products from December 5.
Russia has called the measures a blockade and threatened to retaliate. Lithuania maintains that it is merely enforcing European Union’s sanctions against Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.
The European Commission is now drafting clarifications on the implementation of sanctions on Kaliningrad transit. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
