Georgia has banned export of wheat and barley to avoid shortage on the domestic market.
“The government decided to ban export of domestically produced wheat and barley until July 4, 2023,” head of Agricultural Ministry said.
Georgia exports barley mainly to Iran. It has shipped 2.5 thousand tons since the start of the year. Domestic production will be only 60 thousand tons this year.
Georgia consumes 700-800 thousand tons of wheat per year. Only 10% of this volume is produced domestically. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
