Lithuania’s Customs Criminal Service has launched an arms smuggling investigation after discovering military helicopter holders for the launch of aviation bombs in a warehouse of a Kaunas company.
The discovery was made in late May. According to customs officers, the company intended to ship the holders abroad.
The service said in a press release that six special holders designated for Russian MI-171 military helicopters had been found during a search in a warehouse of an unspecified Kaunas company on May 27. The company, engaged in aviation equipment maintenance and trade, delivered the holders from Estonia.
Customs officers suspected that the holders could quality as weapons and had been imported without the required authorisations.
Police experts confirmed to customs officers that the devices were designated for the launch of aviation bombs and that trade in such arms was prohibited. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
