With the effective interaction of domestic and foreign logistics, the volume of grain exports from Ukraine by land and river can be increased to 2.5 million tons per month, or up to 50% of the total pre-war export volume, deputy chairman of Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denis Marchuk said on June 8.
“While in March Ukraine exported about 200 thousand tons of grain by land and river, in May, under new conditions, Ukrainian agrarians exported 1.74 million tons of grain. If the work of agricultural, transport and customs infrastructure is continued in the future, the total volume of exports by land and river corridors can be increased to 50% of the total pre-war export volume, which was about 5 million tons,” Marchuk said.
However, according to him, there is a certain factor that hinders the passage of Ukrainian grain to the world market through these corridors.
“We see that domestic entrepreneurs and relevant government services are doing quite well, however, unfortunately, sometimes our Western partners are not doing well, whose logistics is not yet ready to accept such large volumes of Ukrainian grain,” the expert said.
He supposes that international partners should understand this problem and listen to the statements of the President of Ukraine, who asks for active assistance in unblocking Ukrainian Black Sea ports. Otherwise, land corridors will remain the main way to supply Ukrainian food to the world market for a long time.
“If the ports are not unblocked in the near future, before the start of the new harvest, farmers will have to use new technologies for storing crops. This will require additional funding, in particular, through state support mechanisms,” Marchuk said. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
