Several dozen Taiwanese officials, businesspeople and scientists started their visit in Lithuania on March 21, as the two countries looked to expand economic cooperation in areas like semiconductors.
They are scheduled to meet with Lithuanian business and government representatives and discuss specific locations where joint semiconductor and other companies could be set up in Lithuania, according to Elijus Civilis, head of the government’s investment promotion agency Invest Lithuania.
The delegation of almost 30 people includes officials from Taiwan’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economy, Science and Technology, and Education, as well as scientists and businesspeople, Civilis said.
In February, Taiwan opened a joint research centre on semiconductors and their materials in Vilnius, and it would help to implement precision machinery and semiconductor projects.
Taiwan announced in January it would soon offer 1 billion euros in funding for joint Lithuanian-Taiwanese business projects. Moreover, it vowed to set up a fund of$ 200 million for investment in Lithuania’s industrial sector. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
