Ukraine’s production is five times as much as its domestic consumption, so it has sufficient food reserves, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky has said.
According to him, even if production stops, Ukraine now has a large stock of everything it needs because “we are exporters, and exports have stopped.”
“For example, wheat. Ukraine consumes 8 million tons a year. We now have about 6 million tons. And in the summer we will harvest winter crops. We have a two-year supply of corn. We consume 7 million tons, and we now have 15 million tons. We have sunflower oil for another 5 years. We have sugar stock for a year and a half,” Vysotsky said.
He also noted that this year’s sowing was the most difficult in the history of independent Ukraine, as it would begin later, given the long winter. In the southern regions, it is expected to begin in about a week and throughout Ukraine – after April 10.
“A week ago, we announced a solution. In a fairly simple online form, each farmer can submit to the ministry the actual state of preparation for sowing and indicate the needs they have. We help contact a supplier of relevant resources. We encourage everyone to join this initiative. It will help coordinate,” Vysotsky added. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
