Georgia will receive up to 50,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19, designated for children aged between 5 and 12, in the second quarter of this year, the head of the National Center for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze has announced.
As Gamkrelidze explained, preliminary discussion on vaccination of the children in the age group was held by the Immunisation Council body, with those in risk groups to be vaccinated primarily.
“In the first stage, we are thinking about making it available for children with concomitant diseases,” Gamkrelidze said.
According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for children aged 5 through 11 is administered as a two-dose primary series three weeks apart. However, the jabs are of a lower dose (10 micrograms) than that used for individuals aged 12 and older (30 micrograms).
Georgia approved coronavirus vaccination for teenagers between 12 and 15 years of age with the Pfizer vaccine in November 2021. (Agenda/Business World Magazine)
