On February 9, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain Jose Manuel Albarez Bueno.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Spain remained one of Ukraine’s major trading partners in the European Union. He noted that in the first 11 months of 2021, trade between the countries grew by more than 28%, to $2.26 billion, and Ukraine was ready to further increase trade.
“The Government of Ukraine expresses readiness to deepen cooperation in all areas of bilateral partnership. We expect that a business forum with the participation of Spanish businessmen will be held during the visit of the Prime Minister of Spain to Ukraine,” the Prime Minister of Ukraine said.
Apart from that, Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine looked forward to holding the Fourth Meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Spanish Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Industrial Cooperation in Kyiv this year, which would boost investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine also thanked Spain for its support in the face of the escalating situation on Ukraine’s eastern border.
During the meeting, Jose Manuel Albarez Bueno noted that Spain’s solidarity was reflected in the support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The Spanish Foreign Minister also added that their country was interested in deepening bilateral relations with Ukraine both at the political level and in the trade and cultural spheres.
