In February, Latvia’s ability to cover electricity consumption with local energy generation continued growing – consumption was covered at 94.5%, up by 4.3% MoM and the highest index since March 2020, according to the report composed by Latvia’s transmission system’s operator AS Augstsprieguma tikls (AST).
In total Latvia domestically produced 589,865 MWh of electricity in February, down by 3% MoM and by 2% YoY. Latvia’s total energy consumption was 630,696 MWh in February. Compared to January, it has declined by 6%, but has increased by 1.7% when compared to February 2020.
When comparing energy market indexes of January and February, it is necessary to keep in mind that January has three days more than February.
Generally speaking, the changes observed in February were insignificant when compared to January.
The volume of electricity produced by Daugava hydroelectric dam has increased by 1% MoM. When compared to February 2020 – energy production output has reduced by 46%. The volume of electricity produced by TEC reduced 3% MoM. When compared to February 2020 this volume has increased by 136%.
When compared to January, the volume of electricity produced by wind turbines has increased by 1% in February. The volume of electricity produced by CHP plants has dropped by 10%, the volume produced by biomass stations has dropped by 11%, the volume of biogas stations by 9% and by small HES – by 12%.
