Kazakh Grain Union forecasts export of soft wheat to decline by 21%, to 4.8 million tons in 2019-2020 MY.
Over the last years, planted areas under wheat have been declining, while the average yield has been staying rather stable. However, the yield declined to 0.9 ton/ha in 2019.
“According to Kazakh Grain Union estimation, soft wheat production totaled 10.4 million tons in Kazakhstan in 2019. Thus, overall grain supply reached 12.3 million tons with carry-over stocks at 400 thousand tons and import at 1.5 million tons”, the press service reported.
Moreover, experts forecast flour export to halve to 1.24 million tons (in grain equivalent) due to higher wheat production in Uzbekistan and lower quantitative and qualitative indicators of Kazakh wheat.
“Planted areas under barley keep on growing as well as its production despite lower yield last year. Total barley harvest reached 36.6 million tons. However, we expect barley export to decline to 1.3 million tons”, the press service added. (APK-Inform/Business World Magazine)
