As of November 15 Vinnytsia sugar refineries have produced 235,000 tons of sugar.
This year the average sugar beet yield decreased by 1.5 tons per hectare, compared to last year’s figure. In 2018 the yield reached 569 hundredweights/ha, but now – 419 hundredweights/ha.
Therefore, sugar production also reduced. It is already clear that last year’s figure – 424 thousand tons of sugar – will not be achieved.
This year the regional sugar beet area reduced to 44.2 thousand hectares. The local refineries processed 1.5 million tons of sugar beet. According to the results of the current production season, under the best-case scenario the region will produce 300 thousand tons of sugar.
“Dry weather conditions were unfavorable for spring sowing and autumn harvesting”, commented Valentyna Kyrylyuk, Deputy Head of the Department of Agroindustrial Development, Ecology and Natural Resources.
