Ukrzaliznytsia railway operator says there is now more than a tenfold increase, to 1.6 million, in the number of passengers traveling to and from the EU by rail. Since year-start, 374,000 passengers have already traveled to EU countries and back on trains, the company press service quotes CEO Yevhen Kravtsov as saying.
“The direct passenger traffic in the Ukraine-EU direction over the two years of visa-free regime operation amounted to 980,000 passengers, while the reverse direction saw 615,000,” the statement says. “Ukrzaliznytsia flexibly responds to demand and offers for traveling abroad 21 passenger trains and nonstop carriages. You can travel by rail from Ukraine to Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Austria, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, and Bulgaria.”
“In 2016, before visa-free travel was introduced, 62,000 passengers were transported, and in 2018 – 821,000 passengers. Since year-start, 374,000 passengers have already been transported to the EU countries and back,” Kravtsov noted. (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
