Ukraine has increased the export of berries almost 5-fold over the past four years: from 4.5 thousand tons to 23.5 thousand tons, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry’s press service reported.
“Ukrainian fresh berries are exported to Belarus, Poland, Moldova, the UK and the Netherlands. The EU countries have become the largest consumers of frozen berries,” acting Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Olha Trofimtseva stated at the international forum “S-Fruit Transformation”.
She also noted that 132.9 thousand tons of berries were harvested by all categories of Ukrainian farms in 2018, of which only 15.3 thousand tons were gathered by agricultural enterprises.
“The largest share of gathered berries was made up by strawberries, with a harvest totaling 62.3 thousand tons, raspberries (35.6 thousand tons) and currants (29.6 thousand tons),” the acting minister added. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
