In 2018, Ukraine’s state railways operator JSC Ukrzaliznytsia increased passenger traffic by 4 million people compared to 2017.
JSC Ukrzaliznytsia transported 55.9 million passengers last year, the press service of the company reported.
The increase in traffic happened due to the rational use of cars.
“During the New Year and Christmas holidays, we launched about 40 additional trains to perform more than 300 rail rides,” Chairman of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov said.
According to him, the passenger car fleet decreased by 100 units in 2018 due to the expiration of the service life. At the same time, 200 cars are needed for an annual fleet renewal.
Earlier, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia reported that the tariffs for passenger transportation in 2019 would grow by 25%. The increase of tariff rates will occur in two stages – from April 1 and in October. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
