The Verkhovna Rada has passed in the first reading a bill that provides for a ban on the commissioning of new houses and public facilities without arranging a barrier-free space. The relevant draft law aims to enhance protection of persons with disabilities and other people with limited mobility in urban planning.
Deputy head of the Ministry of Regional Development, Lev Partskhaladze, explains that the bill proposes to prohibit the commissioning of newly built residential buildings and public facilities if no ramps or other barrier-free spaces have been provided.
The official announced the new state construction standards “Inclusiveness of buildings and structures” already approved by the Ministry, which should come into effect in the spring of 2019. (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
