Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan says interim or major overhauls of roads in Ukraine cost about UAH 10 million ($358,551) per kilometer.
“Some 4,000 kilometers of roads have been repaired this year. This is a large figure. Interim or major overhauls of roads in Ukraine cost about UAH 10 million per kilometer, which is a record low amount compared to any neighboring states,” Omelyan said.
According to the minister, the construction of a highway in Bulgaria is the cheapest in the European Union – EUR 3 million per kilometer, while in Poland it costs from EUR 5 million to EUR 7 million. Omelyan says that Ukraine manages to save on low-paid labor and raw materials.
According to the State Road Agency of Ukraine, Ukravtodor, over 2,000 kilometers of roads were repaired and built in Ukraine in 2017, twice as much as in 2016. The agency says UAH 2 trillion ($71.7 billion) is needed for major overhauls of roads across Ukraine. (UNIAN/Business World Magazine)
