In 2017 the Freeport of Riga handled 33,674,700 tons of cargo, down by 9% YoY.
According to the port authority, coal transshipment fell by 11.4%, to 11.776 million tons, transshipment of oil products totaled 5.64 million tons (-30.3%), wood pellets – 646,000 tons (+16.5%) and ore – 514,000 tons (+26.5%).
The port’s container throughput grew by 15.6%, to 445,984 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 42.8%, to 830,380 including 87,384 cruise passengers (+22.4%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, and maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2016, the port’s throughput totaled 37,070,300 tons of cargo.
