On April 12, a meeting of the joint Latvian-Kyrgyzstan transport work group was held in Transport Ministry. At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed an agreement for closer cooperation between the two countries in transport, transit, logistics and aviation.
During the meeting, the two sides presented development trends, planned projects, and discussed cooperation perspectives.
Transport Ministry notes that Latvia’s side reported on its performed activities for the development of the Eurasian transport corridor. Officials also informed partners about advantages offered by Latvia’s ports and special economic zones for Kyrgyzstan’s imports and exports.
The meeting also discussed opportunities offered by Latvia for the development of container cargo transports between the two countries.
Both sides welcomed the joint meeting of the Latvian-Kyrgyzstan committee on international transports on April 10. This meeting discussed matters associated with the development of mutual relations in transport matters between the two countries. Officials from Kyrgyzstan expressed interest in receiving consultations on improving road traffic security, the ministry explains.
“Latvia and Kyrgyzstan both demonstrated interest in signing an agreement on air traffic connectivity and finish work on the text of this document. Kyrgyzstan’s representatives appreciated the opportunity to have a look at the work of Latvian aviation institutions, as well as expressed their interest to cooperate with Latvia in training of air traffic control specialists,” the ministry reports.
Both sides agreed transit, aviation and land transports had potential for development. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
