As part of building the third power connection between Estonia and Latvia, Estonian power grid operator Elering has announced a procurement tender for designing and constructing the Estonian side of the project.
“The new Estonian-Latvian power connection is notable because a project important from the energy security and market standpoint will be carried out without burdening the wallets of Estonian electricity consumers”, Elering CEO Taavi Veskimagi said.
The overall cost of the third Estonian-Latvian power connection is about 172 million euros, with 112 million euros to be co-funded by the EU.
It is planned that the Baltic connection would increase the transmission capacity used for trading between Estonia and Latvia to 600 Megawatts. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
