As of October 17, winter crops had been sown at 5307 thousand ha, or72% of the forecast area – 7374 thousand ha.
This included 4804 thousand ha of winter wheat and triticale (77% from the planned 6198 thousand ha), 140 thousand ha of rye (95% of 147 thousand ha), 364 thousand ha of barley (35% of 1028 thousand ha). Sowing pace is 8% slower than last year. As of October 17, 2015, 5744 thousand ha had been sown with winter grains.
Ukrainian farmers continue to harvest grain crops and average pace is also slower than last year. Precipitations observed in the first ten days of October delayed field works in several regions.
