Ukraine has agreed to liberalize freight transport with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The relevant agreements were reached during the first meeting of the Joint Commission on International Road Transport in Sarajevo.
The Ukrainian delegation was represented by a team from the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development.
The parties agreed that starting on January 1, 2027, “visa-free regime” for freight transport would take effect between Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina. This means that bilateral and transit freight transportation between the countries will be carried out without the need for permits.
Until the full launch of liberalization, the parties also agreed to increase the quota of permits for freight transport until the end of 2026.
“We continue to expand the scope of freight transport liberalization for Ukrainian carriers. The agreement on “transport visa-free travel” with Bosnia and Herzegovina is another step toward simplifying international logistics, supporting exports, and integrating Ukraine into the European transport space. At the same time, increasing the quota of permits already this year will allow businesses to operate more stably and predictably,” noted Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba.
The liberalization of freight transport shall facilitate trade between countries, reduce the administrative burden on carriers, and improve the efficiency of international logistics. It is important to note that trade between the countries has increased fivefold over the past 10 years; accordingly, the liberalization of transport will make it possible to further increase trade volumes and intensify cooperation.
Ukraine already has “transport visa-free regime” with the European Union and a number of countries. In total, the scope of transport liberalization covers more than 35 countries. Thus, Bosnia and Herzegovina will become the 36th country on this list. (Government portal)
