The first new carriages as part of the project to renovate Ukrzaliznytsia’s rolling stock will carry passengers on the flagship train as early as April 28. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.
“We are proceeding with the systematic modernisation of Ukrzaliznytsia’s rolling stock. This upgrade includes the delivery of 100 new Ukrainian-made carriages – compartment carriages, inclusive carriages and new-generation carriages with a service life extended by 20 years,” noted the Head of Government.
Yulia Svyrydenko emphasised that over 150 Ukrainian enterprises, including those near the front line and relocated ones, were involved in the production, which she had the opportunity to inspect last October.
“This provides jobs for over 10,000 Ukrainians and supports the national economy. The product, manufactured in Ukraine, benefits the economy and logistics within the country – straight from the factory onto the tracks,” noted the Prime Minister.
The new carriages meet modern comfort standards: they feature improved shelving, air conditioning, changing tables and baby playpens, ramps and upgraded batteries, allowing the temperature to be set in advance before passengers board.
The total cost of the project is approximately UAH 6.5 billion. Delivery will take place in stages until May 2028. (Government portal)
