Latvia will allocate ten million euros to support Ukraine under NATO’s NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) fund, the government has decided.
As Prime Minister Evika Silina (New Unity) explained on social media, the funding would be used to procure weapons and equipment to help Ukraine defend itself.
The purchases will be made from Latvia’s strategic partner, the United States, “ensuring reliable and high-quality assistance,” Silina has stated.
She also noted that Latvia’s contribution fell within the previously planned funding level of 0.25% of gross domestic product, reaffirming the country’s continued support for Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defence explained that the PURL initiative is designed to facilitate the procurement and transfer of U.S. defence goods and services to Ukraine through donations from allies and partners. Under the initiative, European countries and Canada provide funding for the purchase of U.S.-manufactured military equipment to ensure that the Armed Forces of Ukraine receive the necessary support.
