In the next four years, 70,000 elevators in multi-apartment buildings across Russia need to be replaced, as their service life has expired, said the Minister of Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Russia, Irek Faizullin.
“If these elevators are not replaced or modernized by 2030, the overhaul will not take place, and these elevators will not work,” said the head of the Ministry of Construction in an interview with “Russia 24”. He also recalled that the government had previously extended the service life of old lifting devices by five years — they were supposed to be decommissioned in February 2025.
Prior to this, the deputy chair of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, Svetlana Razvorotneva, stated that Russia might not manage to replace outdated elevators in buildings by 2030. “In the regions, unfortunately, the pace of replacement that we are currently seeing does not allow us to hope that this task will be accomplished,” said the deputy. The Ministry of Construction previously estimated the approximate cost of replacing outdated elevators at 195 billion rubles, but such an amount of funds was not included in the overhaul program (The Moscow Times).
