On August 12, Taras Kachka, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Trade Representative of Ukraine, met with representatives of Ukrainian business, in particular the IT industry, to discuss the Government’s priorities in the field of digital transformation, harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with EU law and development of export potential.
The meeting gathered representatives of the following organizations: Kharkiv IT Cluster, Kyivstar Tech, CRM.UA, SoftServe, Huawei Ukraine, Oscorp, N-iX, Forvis Mazars, DSV Logistics, UAPAY/Igama Ukraine, Devlight, Uwell, EPAM Ukraine, Sigma Software Group, SEETON, Arzinger, YouControl, Esper Bionics, SK Security, PwC Ukraine, Luxoft and others.
The key topics of discussion were the prospects for cooperation in the framework of Ukraine’s European integration, the implementation of the necessary steps for Ukraine’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), as well as the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to EU acquis, taking into account the position of business and maintaining favorable conditions for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“Our task is to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with EU norms so that businesses do not lose competitiveness but rather get new opportunities for growth,” the official emphasized.
The Deputy Prime Minister also informed about the progress of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU and emphasized the importance of the role of business and experts in forming a common position of the state in the context of reforms. The official has also noted that the Government, together with the European Commission, has been conducting an assessment of the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with EU law (screening) since February 2024, which is scheduled to be completed this fall.
Particular attention was paid to Ukraine’s export strategy, including support for the IT sector as one of the most critical elements of Ukraine’s economy and consideration of the interests of Ukrainian companies in the process of European integration.
He emphasized that the IT industry was not only a driver of the Ukrainian economy, but also a symbol of Ukraine’s resilience and innovation. “The IT sector has the prospects to be one of the first to fully integrate into the EU Internal Market. That is why we must create the best possible conditions for its development. At the same time, we already have significant achievements in sectoral integration in the field of roaming. Ukraine has made all the necessary steps and will become part of the EU roaming area as of January 1, 2026.”
They also talked about the work on Ukraine’s accession to the EU’s SEPA. Taras Kachka noted that opening access to the EU’s Digital Single Market and joining SEPA were strategic steps that would greatly facilitate cross-border trade and give a boost to Ukrainian exports.
At the end of the meeting, Taras Kachka emphasized that it would be important for the Government to receive regular feedback from business to ensure the success of reforms. This will allow the Government to better understand the needs and interests of businesses to take them into account in the EU accession negotiations.
“Our common strategic task is to ensure the most favorable conditions for the functioning and development of Ukrainian business in the transition to European standards and integration into the EU Internal Market,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
The event was organized by Diia.City Union and IT Ukraine Association. (Government portal)
