The historical and architectural reference plan of Lviv will be updated. This decision was made on January 7 at a meeting of the executive committee of the Lviv City Council. This was announced by the deputy mayor for urban development Lyubomyr Zubach.
According to Lyubomyr Zubach, the goal of the historical and architectural reference plan is to protect monuments from large-scale development.
“The legal proceedings are taking their course. Let me remind you that the Lviv City Council filed an appeal, which is now being considered by the Supreme Court. We are fighting evil forces. But as we know, the courts are not as fast as we would like. And this matter – the protection of monuments – is, without further ado, important. And that is why we are moving in that direction in parallel with the courts. So, in the city council, we are still convinced that such a document as a historical and architectural reference plan is absolutely necessary. So we will do everything to make it work,” said Lubomyr Zubach.
By decision of the executive committee, work on the reference plan will be continued and work will be done on its improvement, as there are requests from both executive bodies and legal entities and individuals to clarify the boundaries and regimes of the use of monuments.
“The key thing is that there will be a document. We have no doubts or discussions about this. The reference plan will determine the regimes and restrictions, and therefore, will protect the historical and architectural heritage of Lviv,” added Lyubomyr Zubach.
Every historical city, especially if it is part of the UNESCO heritage, is obliged to have a historical and architectural reference plan – an important strategic document for the preservation of immovable cultural and historical heritage. In Lviv the development of this document began in 2017. In October 2023 it was approved by the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of the Lviv Regional Military Administration and in January 2024 – by the relevant ministry. (ProfiDOM)
