Deputy Energy Minister of Ukraine Roman Andarak met with Foreign Minister of Iceland Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir. They visited one of Ukraine’s energy facilities, which had been severely damaged by targeted russian attacks.
Roman Andarak briefed the Icelandic delegation on the current situation in the Ukrainian energy system and the consequences of the recent hostile attacks on the energy sector. The parties discussed the priority needs in power equipment required for restoration works, as well as the issues of increasing distributed generation capacity and developing alternative energy sources.
“Increasing the capacity of distributed generation and the use of alternative energy sources is one of Ukraine’s key priorities. We are grateful to our international partners, in particular Iceland, for their support in strengthening the resilience of our power system. Thanks to our joint efforts, we will have an opportunity to ensure stability and development even in the extremely difficult conditions of war,” said Roman Andarak.
The Deputy Minister expressed his gratitude to the Government of Iceland for its assistance with equipment, materials and for its contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which is used to purchase the necessary energy equipment to enable faster repairs and restoration of energy facilities after attacks.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland noted that her country would continue to support Ukraine and the Ukrainian energy sector, which was subjected to russian attacks.
The parties also discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation, including the development of geothermal energy in Ukraine and the use of Iceland’s experience in this field. (Government portal)
