In 2023, the annual inflation rate continued the downward trend of late 2022, and in the last quarter it entered the target range. Thus, the annual inflation rate decreased from 8.6% in September 2023 to 4.2% in December 2023. The information was included in the inflation report, presented by Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Anca Dragu on February 14.
“For the fourth month in a row, inflation remains within the range of the target, i.e. in the range of 3.5-6.5%. In December 2023, inflation stood at 4.2% and in January 2024, recent figures showed inflation at 4.6%. The downward trend of the annual inflation rate was supported by the decrease in contributions from regulated prices, food prices and to a lesser extent – by core inflation,” Dragu said.
According to BNM data, the annual inflation rate will continue to have a relatively stable trend for the entire forecast period, which includes the period from the first quarter of 2024 to the fourth quarter of 2025. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
