Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen. During the meeting, the parties exchanged the originals of the Memorandum on the expansion of the energy partnership in the field of wind energy, which was signed online by the Energy Ministers of both countries at the end of April.
German Galushchenko thanked Denmark for its support to Ukraine’s energy sector, including humanitarian aid and the Kingdom’s contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, established jointly with the Energy Community Secretariat.
“We thank Denmark for being the first donor to the Fund and setting an example for other countries. This tool has already proven its effectiveness – with the money raised through the Fund, we are able to purchase equipment needed to restore the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, which continues to be subject to targeted russian attacks,” the minister said.
The Head of the Ministry of Energy also emphasised the effective cooperation with the Danish side in the implementation of projects to restore the energy infrastructure of Mykolaiv region.
German Galushchenko stressed that Ukraine’s energy strategy up to 2050 provided for the rapid development of wind energy, which should ensure decentralised and sustainable power generation in the future. And cooperation with Denmark in this area plays an important role in achieving these goals.
During the meeting, the parties discussed areas for further cooperation in implementing the provisions of the Memorandum. The first phase of cooperation will include an accelerated study of Ukraine’s offshore wind energy potential by the World Bank and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind) until September.
“Denmark is one of the world leaders in wind energy. And, according to the Memorandum, Ukraine will use the Danish experience in rebuilding our energy system. We are talking about both offshore and onshore solutions, in particular, to achieve the goals of decentralisation of generation,” the minister said.
German Galushchenko emphasised the significant potential of offshore generation in the Black and Azov Seas, highlighting the prospects for cooperation, in particular at the private sector level.
The parties also reaffirmed their intention to work together to accelerate the energy transition in line with the goals and priorities of energy development in both countries. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
