The construction of the Permanent Logistics Support Area has been launched in Rukla in central Lithuania, the Defence Ministry reports.
The project is aimed at improving service conditions for the NATO eFP Battle Group and meeting its logistics needs in Lithuania, according to the ministry.
The project will include the construction of a service and maintenance area with hangars, a decontamination area with hangars and facilities, a logistic area with storage hangars, office buildings, operation and maintenance building, motor pools, roads, security systems, fencing and related utility supply networks.
The new area will be located on the territory of a pre-existing technical area in Rukla.
Site preparation works are currently underway, with the German-funded project scheduled to be completed in early 2025.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania has increased its defence funding, and allies have deployed more troops in the country. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
