The harvesting campaign for early grain crops has started in eight regions of Ukraine, the press service of the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine has reported.
“As of June 25, farmers in Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad and Poltava regions have started harvesting early grain crops. In total, 1.6 million tons (5%) of grain crops of the new harvest were gathered from an area of 522,000 hectares,” reads the report.
In particular, Ukrainian farmers threshed 496,000 tons of winter wheat from an area of 156,000 hectares (2%); 1 million tons of barley from 324,000 hectares (13%); and 88,000 tons of peas from 42,000 hectares. Also, 93,000 tons of winter rape were gathered from an area of 52,000 hectares, with a yield of 18 hundredweights per hectare (17.4 hundredweights per hectare in 2018).
As reported, the 2019 sowing campaign began a month earlier than last year. The sowing area of agricultural crops in all categories of farms for the 2019 harvest makes up about 27.7 million hectares. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
