The Estonian Maritime Administration has halted ship traffic in the part of Haapsalu Bay located south of Seasaar and east of the Rohukula-Sviby shipping lane, Maritime Administration spokesperson Priit Poiklik reported.
The Estonian Road Administration has requested that, in case of appropriate weather conditions, ship traffic in the area of the planned Haapsalu-Noarootsi ice road be halted until the latter’s use is concluded.
Before opening an ice road, the conditions of the ice cover along the planned route must be thoroughly investigated. Among other requirements, the minimum required thickness for the ice throughout the route is 24 centimeters.
Thus far, no official ice roads have been opened in Estonia this winter. (BNN/Business World Magazine)
