In January, Latvia’s unemployment rate stood at 6.9%, which was higher than the average levels in both the European Union (EU) and the eurozone, according to data published on March 4 by the EU’s statistical office, Eurostat.
According to the data, higher unemployment rates among EU member states in January were recorded in Finland (10.2%), Spain (9.8%), Sweden (8.7%), France and Greece (both 7.7%), as well as Denmark (7.5%). In Lithuania, the unemployment rate was 6.4%, while in Estonia it stood at 6.3%.
The lowest unemployment rates in January were recorded in Poland and Bulgaria (both 3.1%), the Czech Republic (3.2%), and Malta (3.4%).
Across the EU, the unemployment rate, based on seasonally adjusted data, was 5.8%, compared with 5.9% in December. In the eurozone, it decreased from 6.2% to 6.1%.
Eurostat data showed that in December 2025 there were 12.928 million unemployed people across the EU, of whom 10.77 million were in eurozone countries. (BNN)
