In one year following the launch of the Vilnius-Riga rail link, more than 62,000 passengers have travelled between the capitals of Lithuania and Latvia, reports the Latvian public broadcaster LSM.
The train journey now takes under 4 hours, according to LSM, which quotes the Lithuanian state railways, LTG.
“This route is successful, having maintained its popularity throughout the year. Additional stops on the way to Riga also paid off: about 4,000 passengers travelled from Jonava and Kedainiai to Latvia and back,” said Kristina Meide, head of LTG Link.
As the Baltic countries await the delayed Rail Baltic high-speed link, the existing train connection is set to incorporate Tallinn next year. However, the journey between the Estonian and Lithuanian capitals will require two changes. (LRT)
