The export of table grapes from the 2023 harvest has increased against the last year. In July-October, the grapes producers managed to increase the export of grapes in quantity and value by 17.5% and by 21% YoY, the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) reported.
According to data presented by Moldova’s Customs Service, in July-October, about 15,000 tons of grapes worth about $9 million were exported.
The export according to groups of markets looks as follows: the market of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) – about 7,000 tons (48%) at a price of $0.47/kg; EU market – about 7,000 tons (47%) at a price of $0.74/kg and other countries – 0.8 thousand tons (5%) at a price of $0.54/kg.
“The main destinations of the export of grapes are Romania – about 5,000 tons (or 33%) at a price of $0.64 and Russia – 3,000 tons (21%) at $0.4. The geography of exports has considerably extended, with deliveries made to 25 countries, including new destinations, such as Serbia, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan,” MAIA said.
Presently, according to a decision by the European Parliament, the producers from Moldova have opportunity to export grapes to the European market without taxes and quantitative restrictions; yet, it is necessary that they coordinate their activities, so that the grapes meant for export meet the quality and safety requirements of the destination country.
