The Ukrainian delegation headed by Minister of Energy German Galushchenko met with representatives of the US civilian nuclear industry on the sidelines of the 67th session of the IAEA General Conference.
The minister thanked the US companies for their support of the Ukrainian energy sector in the process of restoring the infrastructure damaged by the enemy, as well as for their readiness for further cooperation.
German Galushchenko stressed that the future of nuclear power in Ukraine was being decided today, as in the event of any incident at the ZNPP occupied by russia, the consequences of a nuclear disaster could be felt all over the world, which in turn would put further investments in the industry in doubt.
The Energy Minister noted that Ukraine was actively cooperating with US companies in the energy sector, including the nuclear industry. Recently, Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB, with the participation of experts from the Ukrainian NNEGC Energoatom, developed a new type of fuel for VVER-440 reactors. Previously, reactors of this type could only operate on russia-made fuel.
“Despite the war, we are capable of taking steps that put an end to the russian monopoly in the market. russia has violated all the basic principles of nuclear and radiation safety and it simply cannot be the player in the global markets. The world can and must live without russian nuclear technologies,” German Galushchenko assured.
The Ukrainian side is also interested in cooperation with American companies regarding launching the production of small modular reactor technology in Ukraine. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
