On July 6, traffic on two newly constructed exits of the Darnytskyi Bridge was. The exits are in the direction of the Paton Bridge and Osokorky, on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the capital.
The opening of the junction will speed up traffic in the capital.
“In 2019, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced clear infrastructure priorities. One of the most important is the completion of long-term construction projects. Darnytskyi Bridge has become one of the symbols of Kyiv’s long-term construction projects. For more than 10 years, it has been a monument to negligence and corruption. The opening of Darnytskyi Bridge does not mean that our fight against long-term construction projects and emergency bridges is over. We are now working with a large government team and representatives of specialist organisations in the Commission for the Inspection of Bridges. Our aim is to see the real state of the bridges and develop concrete solutions to protect and maintain the transport infrastructure. High-quality bridges are the key to fast military logistics, sustainable economic development and a stable humanitarian situation in Ukraine. I see that the country has changed radically, and time demands systemic, profound changes, new approaches to work, high speed of construction and reconstruction. We don’t have decades to wait,” said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development.
According to a study by the analytical company ProMobility, with the South Bridge closed, motorists will save more than half a billion hryvnias a year in traffic losses.
The opening of the entrances and exits will make it possible to organise a direct connection between the residential areas of Osokorky and Pozniaky and the Kyiv City Express platform and Berezniaky.
It should be noted that construction on Darnytskyi Bridge was resumed in 2021. Work was suspended due to a large-scale invasion in March-April last year, but resumed around the clock in May 2022.
The bridge, which was on the balance sheet of Ukrzaliznytsia, was completed at public expense. (Government portal/Business World Magazine)
