At a meeting held in hybrid format in Basarabeasca, the four heads of customs and border institutions from Moldova and Ukraine signed the concerned protocol, and thus, another symbol of the friendship between the two states was recorded.
Director of the Customs Service Igor Talmazan stressed that Moldova and Ukraine for the first time ever signed a protocol on the organization of joint control at a railway border crossing point, which means an important step in the development of the cooperation between the customs and border authorities of the two states. On this occasion, the official offered thanks for the solid support provided by the European Union for developing the mechanisms of joint control at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border.
“Moldova and Ukraine firmly stated that we were modern European states, shared the European principles and values and that our future was in the European Union. In the context, the joint control means a modern, European approach of the security of the common border, with emphasis on easing the process of crossing the border and speeding up, interconnection and deepening of the economic processes. This also means confidence between the border guard and customs authorities, including trust between our states. We must work together for the benefit of our nations and for the common future in the European Union,” the head of the Moldovan Border Police, Rosian Vasiloi said.
The launch of the joint control at PTF Basarabeasca – Serpniovo-1 has the goal to strengthen the cooperation at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, which will contribute to the diversification of the ways of carriage of goods with Ukraine, ensuring Moldova’s access to the main regional routes of transporting fuels of various kinds, as well as of the export of cereals from Ukraine. The significant contribution to the development of the bilateral dialogue in terms of security of the common border, public order, economic well-being of both states and fight against the organized cross-border criminality is important as well.
The activity is part of the European Union’s initiative – Solidarity lines, meant to ensure the movement of goods to and from Ukraine. The date of starting the joint control will be established by the leadership of the border crossing point by common agreement. (Moldpres/Business World Magazine)
