The Government will offer programs for business start-up and development as well as active employment programs for veterans, including people with war-related disabilities. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Tetyana Berezhna during a panel discussion on employment of veterans at the Praktyka forum.
“The key for the state in the policy of integrating veterans into the labor market is to ensure their economic independence and the right to decent work. The Government is currently developing a number of options for different groups of veterans. Those who want to become entrepreneurs or develop their own business, which they were engaged in before the war, will be able to take advantage of grant programs. In April, we will launch new programs: grants for veterans’ spouses to start their own business of up to UAH 500,000 and grants of up to UAH 1 million for a group of veterans. We estimate that about 170,000 veterans will be willing to start a business,” said Tetyana Berezhna.
According to the Deputy Minister, veterans who want to get a new specialty that is more in demand in the labor market will be able to undergo retraining at the expense of the state or receive a grant for such training.
“In April, a new grant program, Start in IT, will be launched, under which one can receive a grant of up to UAH 30,000 for IT training. This program will be available to veterans who want to master modern technologies,” said Tetyana Berezhna.
Moreover, the Government will encourage employers to hire veterans by compensating them for part of their salary costs. Among other options, the Government is considering simplifying veterans’ access to the guard services market, which will allow former military personnel to realize their potential in this area.
