In more than two months of the operation of the “grain corridor”, 6.2 million tons of agricultural products have been sent through the seaports of Ukraine, accounting for 48% of the total agricultural exports.
“Before Russia invaded Ukraine, 80-90% of all agricultural exports were delivered through seaports. When they were blocked, we had to redistribute export flows to rail, trucks, ferries and river ports. To date, thanks to the corridor, more than 270 ships loaded with 6.2 million tons of cargo, accounting for 48% of the total agricultural export, have left Ukraine,” Taras Vysotskyi, First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, has said.
Vysotskyi noted that Ukraine, together with its EU partners, managed to establish the uninterrupted operation of the corridor, which made it possible to resume food supplies to African countries. According to him, about 1 million tons of agricultural products have already been sent to Africa.
“Together with EU partner countries, we have developed a joint plan on how to improve global food security. And we are grateful to them for their initiatives. Ukraine, in turn, adopted the necessary legislation for the implementation of this plan. For example, in terms of cargo fumigation. The government has already adopted the relevant resolution and the necessary amendments to it,” the deputy minister noted. (Ukrinform/Business World Magazine)
