Lithuania has eased the requirements for employers to hire foreign nationals, effective from August 1.
Asylum seekers and foreigners who have arrived in the country irregularly will now be able to become employed or self-employed 12 months after their registration with the Lithuanian Migration Department. They will be obliged to obtain a permission from the Employment Service.
Foreign nationals who have completed studies in Lithuania will be able to apply for a temporary residence permit within a period of 10 years from the completion of their studies – instead of a two-year period, as was the case until now.
Foreign nationals will only be able to apply for a work visa at Lithuanian diplomatic missions abroad. Applications for a residence permit for work will have to be filed in Lithuania, same as previously. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
