A third of the Lithuanian population has donated money to Ukraine’s fight against Russia or to support Ukrainian refugees, but almost 40% say they have not reacted in any way to the war, according to the results of a survey commissioned by LRT.
The poll, conducted by Baltijos Tyrimai at the end of June, asked people how they responded to the war launched by Russia against Ukraine on February 24.
The poll showed that about one in three (31%) of the country’s adult population donated money to Ukraine’s war effort or to support Ukrainian refugees, and the same proportion (30%) bought extra food and other supplies for themselves in case of a possible war.
One in ten (10%) looked up where the nearest shelter was, one in twenty (5%) prepared an evacuation plan for themselves and their family in case of hostilities in Lithuania, and 3% said they had hosted or helped to host refugees from Ukraine.
1% of respondents joined the Riflemen’s Union or another organisation providing assistance to Ukraine, while under 1% temporarily left Lithuania after Russia attacked Ukraine.
Four in ten (39%) respondents said they had not reacted in any way to the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, while 4% did not answer the question.
The survey of the Lithuanian population was carried out by the public opinion research company Baltijos Tyrimai on June 17-28. It polled 1,005 adults across Lithuania. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
