Minors will no longer be able to buy lottery tickets in Lithuania under a new law passed on June 28.
The parliament adopted the amendments to the Law on Lotteries in a vote of 88 to seven with 23 abstentions. The ban will come into effect in January 2023.
The new legislation will also prohibit cashiers in shops to offer lottery tickets to customers.
Lottery organisers and lottery ticket distributors are also banned from encouraging shoppers to participate in lotteries by offering them to buy tickets at the point of distribution.
The ban does not apply when lottery tickets are sold online.
Currently, there is no age limit for purchasing lottery tickets, but a person has to be at least 16 in order to claim the prize. (LRT/Business World Magazine)
