The budget for the government’s Railway Plus program, aimed to develop local rail connections, will be doubled to PLN 11 billion (EUR 2.37 billion), Mateusz Morawiecki, the prime minister, has said.
Speaking in the south-eastern town of Janow Lubelski on April 20, Morawiecki said the Cabinet would approve the program later in the day.
“It will be a two-fold increase, by another PLN 5.5 billion, to more than PLN 11 billion,” the prime minister said.
According to Morawiecki, the program will allow for the revival of railway lines in Poland.
Under the program, Poland has renovated more than 400 railway stops and close to 300 railway stations. Additionally, the money helped restore over 1,000 kilometers of railways.
According to Poland’s railway line operator PKP PLK, the Railway Plus scheme, which is mainly addressed to local governments, aims to expand the rail network by linking all towns of 10,000 or more inhabitants with province capitals. (The First News/Business World Magazine)
