Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Port plans to deliver transit cargo from Asia to EU countries until the end of the year.
The route will run through the territories of Moldova and Romania, the first deputy director of the port Igor Bilyk has said.
The route Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi – Galati (Romania) is 320 km long: 182 km through the territory of Ukraine, 129 km through the territory of Moldova and 9 km through the territory of Romania.
The new route for supplies to the EU by rail became possible thanks to the major reconstruction of the Bendery-Bessarabyaska-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway section in the Republic of Moldova.
The cost of the large-scale modernization of 230 km of railway is 108 million euros and it is being implemented with the support of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The contractor for the works, following the results of the competition, was selected as Temirzhol Zhendeu LLC, a part of the Kamkor Management group of companies from Kazakhstan. The work began in 2022 and would be completed this year.
The completion of the work will allow the removal of restrictions on the weight and speed of trains (increasing to 90 km/h) and will contribute to increasing the level of safety, reducing cargo delivery times and creating optimal conditions for the effective operation of the railway section.
The section is important for transit logistics in the region and serves as a connecting link between the railway systems of Ukraine, Moldova and the EU. (Minprom)
