The mobile network operator “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons” (LMT) will become the distributor of South Korean technology company Samsung’s tactical smart devices in the Baltic States, LMT representatives have announced.
This week, in collaboration with Samsung and representatibaves from the defence, interior and justice sectors, LMT presented a tactical smart device-a smartphone adapted for military and security needs with enhanced durability, high-level cybersecurity and specialized software.
The company notes that this tactical device is already in use in several NATO countries, and LMT will be the first distributor of this technology in the Baltic States.
LMT Vice President and Management Board Member Ingmars Pukis stated that the tactical device developed by LMT and Samsung was adaptable for various missions, functioned in complex environments and supported software such as “Viedsargs”, “TAK” and others, ensuring interoperability between military technologies and strengthening regional defence.
LMT representatives added that the tactical smart device was a secure, reliable and efficient communication solution for a wide range of operational conditions. It offers high resistance to water, dust, extreme temperatures, drops, impacts and vibrations. The device also allows simple and stable integration with tactical radio systems, GPS, drones, sensors and other equipment.
The tactical device automatically detects connected devices, is compatible with night vision equipment, and features enhanced touchscreen sensitivity for use with gloves. In addition, the device can operate in “stealth mode”, turning off all radio signal emissions and functioning off the communication grid.
As a result of the cooperation between Samsung and LMT, the defence, interior and justice sectors of Latvia and the Baltic States will have access to highly durable devices tailored for military use with customized software.
According to preliminary data, LMT Group’s turnover last year was 309.6 million euros, a 0.5% increase compared to 2023. (BNN)
